Fondos Infraestructura para Educación

Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico

For over 50 years the Aguadilla Campus of Inter American University has served Puerto Rico with excellence. The campus has graduated hundreds of professionals who are offering their services to Puerto Rico and the World. The Aguadilla campus is part of nine campuses and two professional schools of the private and nonprofit Inter American University. It has been characterized for its community service and dedication to learning and the professional development of its students. The campus has an enrollment of 4,400 students who mostly come from low-income families. The Aguadilla campus does not have a student center that meets the needs of its students. Vehicular traffic and the economic situation of many of our students force them to stay on campus between classes rather than returning home. In addition, the student service area cannot be expanded and our students often wait in the hallways to receive services. Expanding our student center will provide additional space to locate all services in one place and to provide additional room for student organizations and their extracurricular activities. The project will cost approximately $6,000,000 and will be financed through private donations, fundraising activities, and Campus resources. To that end, we have separated $500,000 from our 2010-2011 budget and we hope to raise an additional $1,500.000 from donors. Contribution from alumni will be added to this effort as the Development Office has launched a fund raising campaign for that purpose. Like other private institutions, Inter American University, Aguadilla Campus is increasingly dependent on private funding from private donors and alumni to develop projects like this. Financial support from these sources will help maintain and advance the Campus’ academic excellence as well as its programs. We trust that you or your organization may cooperate generously to make this project a reality for the benefit of thousands of students from the northwest part of Puerto Rico.
