SALKANTAY TO MACHUPICCHU 5DAYS INTRODUCTION This trekking expedition Salkantya to Machupicchu is one of the most picturesque trips offered in Cusco region which will take you close of the sacred Salkantay snow peak (6,271 meters) (20,700 feet), considered by Andean Peruvian people as the "Spiritual protector" this trekking adventure is the main choice offered for visitors because the famous Inca trail is so crowded. The view of different sceneries, landscapes, Andean villages helps to make your adventure something unforgettable. Duration of the trek: 5 Days / 4 Nights Distance of the trek: 64 km Estimated walking time: 7 to 8 hours Season: From January to December The maximum height: 4,520 m.a.s.l (14.845,80 ft) ITINERARY DAY 01: CUSCO/ MOLLEPATA/ SORAYPAMPA We will pick you up 6:00 o'clock in morning at the hotel afterward we leave Cusco city driving for around three hours till Mollepata village (2,800 m.a.s.l) (9,186 ft.) located at upper hill of Apurimac valley so is also the point where we start the hiking so after to have breakfast in a local restaurant (not included in the package) we walk up through the Andean forests after a couple of hours we have a lunch in Marcocasa outside where we will get a nice view of the valley. Moving on, we go up to Soraypampa (3,200 m.a.s.l) (10,498 ft) and we can observe the progressive change of the flora and fauna. Here we will set up our first campsite. DAY 02: SORAYPAMPA/ SALKANTAY PASS/ CHALLWAY. After an early breakfast, we start climb up with direction to Salkantay pass the highest point of the route (4,520 m.a.s.l) (14,845 ft) where we will have the opportunity to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the nature and the marvellous snow-covered mountain named Salkantay (5,600 m.a.s.l) (18,372 ft) Along with it we will also be able to appreciate the snow-covered mountain of Humantay (5,917m.a.s.l) (19,412 ft). After a short break in the pass we go down for around 4 hours through a nice path to Challway campsite, this is over lower and warm than first campsite (2,900 m.a.s.l) (9,514 ft) where we have the dinner too. DAY 03: CHALLWAY/ PLAYA Today we walk over tropical area and cloud forest appreciating small water volcanoes, orchids, different kinds of flowers, bushes, bamboos, birds and of course will enjoy also the passion fruit (granadillas) then we will see the most beautiful waterfall on the trail. After 6 hours walking we will get Playa campsite (2,000 m.a.s.l) (6,561 ft) where we spend the night. DAY 4: PLAYA / AGUAS CALIENTES Early morning we start to walk through a small hill that will leads us to one of the small dispersed archaeological groups called Llaqtapata (2,800 m.a.s.l) (9,186 ft), in this place we will see a figured rock that was worked to use it with astronomical purposes so we get also the first view of the great ancient Machupicchu city. Then we walk down with direction the hydroelectric train station to have the lunch. After lunch we still have a nice walking over the train truck to Aguas Calientes town (2040 m.a.s.l) (6,692 ft) where we will enjoy the hot spring, spending the night in a hotel. DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES /MACHUPICCHU / CUSCO We wake up early to walk up for one hour until Machu Picchu citadel (2430 m.a.s.l) (7,970 ft) getting an extensive guided tour. Then you will have free time to explore by yourself the old city climbing up also until Huaynapicchu. On afternoon we take a return bus to Aguas Calientes to take the train back with direction to Cusco city in there after four hours train ride.
